Dynamik von Ökosystemen
Der Schwerpunkt der Forschung der malakologischen Abteilung findet sich im Bereich der evolutionären Systematik. Wir untersuchen evolutionäre Prozesse wie Artbildung, Radiation und Hybridisierung mit Hilfe einer Kombination morphologischer und molekulargenetischer Methoden. Je nach Zielsetzung des Projekts werden die systematischen, phylogenetischen und populationsgenetischen Erkenntnisse mit geographischen und ökologischen Daten verknüpft, um die Prozesse, die zur Entstehung der beobachteten biogeographischen und makroökologischen Mustern geführt haben und somit die Dynamik von Ökosystemen besser zu verstehen.
Landschnecken als Modellorganismen
Wir nutzen für unsere Studien Landschnecken als Modellorganismen. Landschnecken sind aufgrund ihrer geringen Mobilität nicht nur für die Analyse historischer Prozesse eine geeignete Modellgruppe, sondern sie eignen sich dadurch auch als Indikatoren für die Qualität von Habitaten und sind somit für Naturschutzzwecke relevant.
