Tracing back
evolutionary
history
The Tree of Life is a big intricate family genealogy that encompasses all living organisms, bound by their evolutionary history (ancestors). We reconstruct these relationships (phylogeny) using genomic data, which is a prime source of evolutionary information. Phylogenies are also the basis for any biological comparative study that aims to explain the species’ form and function.
Digging genomes
to understand
evolutionary
transitions
Evolutionary transitions, marked by their high rates of innovation and species formation, provide a compelling model for understanding the dynamics of evolution. Employing comparative genomics and multi-omics approaches, we delve into the genomic underpinnings of these transitions, aiming for integrative views into these intricate evolutionary phenomena.
Uncovering the
genomic potential
of natural history
collections
Natural history collections are invaluable archives of biodiversity spanning the past few centuries. Unlocking the genomic information preserved within historical specimens holds tremendous potential for enhancing our understanding of species' historical and contemporary genetic diversity and population structures, thereby positively impacting biodiversity conservation efforts. Furthermore, it allows studying extinct populations and species, enhances our understanding of adaptations to climate change, and can even be utilized to trace the origins of pathogens with pandemic potential.
