The LIB is internationally recognised in the fields of collection-based basic research and applied biodiversity research. Research aspects include classical taxonomy, systematics, morphology, genomics, evolution, species distribution modelling and various aspects of biodiversity assessment and monitoring. With biodiversity recording and monitoring research, it combines collection-based, species-related research with ecosystem studies and services.
In these research areas, the LIB offers structured mentoring and supervision for doctoral students. The aim is to support early steps in a scientific career and to help develop personal options. To achieve this goal, we offer an accompanying programme of seminars, lectures, internships and soft-skill workshops. These activities are planned and organised each year as needed to fit into the tight schedules of many research projects. By opening the training programme to all young researchers, all students can also benefit from the activities on offer.
