Bridge professorships at the LIB

We build a bridge

As a natural science research museum of the Leibniz Association, biodiversity research is our core competence. However, we do not conduct research alone, but share our knowledge in networks, research groups or interdisciplinary projects, for example. Close cooperation with our partner universities in Bonn and Hamburg is particularly important to us. One example of this is our bridge professorships, which we are developing together with the University of Bonn and the University of Hamburg. With the focus on further exploring and understanding the biodiversity of our planet, the close cooperation with the university departments literally builds a bridge to increase effectiveness and at the same time promote scientific exchange.

Passing on the knowledge

The basis for this collaboration is provided by joint scientific projects in which teamwork between us and the universities takes centre stage. These are not only supported cooperatively by both sides, but also promote the transfer of knowledge to the next generation of biologists: Not only do we actively involve Bachelor's and Master's students in these projects, but the bridge professors also pass on their knowledge to them within courses at the universities.
