We humans are part of nature. However, our connection to animals and plants is fading to the same extent that our knowledge of fauna, flora and the connections between all life on our planet is dwindling. The LIB wants to break this downward spiral. At the Centre for Knowledge Exchange (zwt ), we want to inspire our visitors with exhibitions, events and educational programmes about the diversity of species and habitats and promote a comprehensive understanding and commitment to a sustainable future.
Inspiring enthusiasm for nature
At the Museum Koenig Bonn and Museum der Natur Hamburg as well as on excursions, we offer everyone the opportunity to feel part of nature, to discuss its use with our researchers and to reflect on our resource-intensive consumer behaviour.
Links to everyday life
We aim to make the potential and significance of science transparent to everyone, and to demonstrate why and how we study biodiversity and the changes it undergoes, and how we can protect it. In doing so, we address current issues affecting everyday life and, drawing on our research analyses, take into account the expectations and behaviour of our museum visitors.
Knowledge transfer at the LIB
Like the other research museums in the Leibniz Association, the LIB is a key centre for the dissemination of knowledge. Its programmes and activities focus on biodiversity, how it is changing, and its relevance to our society. Through our educational and outreach programmes, we aim to raise awareness of the environmental challenges facing our planet in collaboration with schools, universities and other educational institutions.
Research-Informed Museum Development
We conduct research on the dynamics of science communication in order to further develop our museums based on evidence. In doing so, we collaborate in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner with the other LIB centres and with partners from the fields of politics, media, and agriculture. We reflect on our role in societal transformation processes and work together to shape our self-image as actors in science communication.
