Ornithology, Hamburg

Our task

The Ornithology Section contributes to all areas of the LIB's research programme with a broad range of topics on the ecology and evolution of birds. The department collects dead finds from the surrounding area, takes tissue samples and thus participates in environmental monitoring and in particular in recording the genetic variability of the native bird world. The collection-related research work is dedicated to compiling an up-to-date type catalogue and reconstructing the collecting activities of specific collectors.
