Title of the project
Catfish population survey in the River Sieg
Management
Fabian Herder
Description
Analyses of the food spectrum and age of catfish in the River Sieg
Catfish have been a regular fish population in our local waters for decades. Due to the climatic changes associated with the warming of the waters, the catfish is now spreading rapidly in many waters. In the River Sieg, natural reproduction of catfish was first recorded in 2003 by the Sieg Fischerei-Genossenschaft Hennef (SFG) for the first time in 2003.
The impact of this predatory fish on other fish species is the subject of controversial debate among scientists and amateur anglers alike.
In the project, the LIB is responsible for the scientific investigations and evaluations of stomach analyses and age determination. It is also involved in the stock surveys on the water and the collection of samples.
