Description of the
Under the leadership of Dr Kirsten Thonicke (PIK) and Dr Livia Schäffler (ZFMK), the Leibniz Biodiversity Alliance (LVB) received funding from the Leibniz Strategic Networking funding line for the project "Towards a future sustainable world where climate, biodiversity, natural resources and human well-being are safeguarded" (SustainCBW). In the funding period January 2018 - April 2019, seven Leibniz institutions[1] are systematically analysing the goals of international conventions and agreements relevant to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity (CBD, SDG and Paris Agreement) with regard to interactions in order to develop strategies for resolving existing conflicts.
At the ZFMK, Dr Anke Frank is investigating knowledge gaps that result in insufficient consideration of biodiversity concerns in implementation measures and will thus enable future interdisciplinary collaborative research projects to be adapted to the identified research needs. A particular focus here is on the threat to terrestrial species (SDG 15) in a biodiversity hotspot in Madagascar from land use to feed the population (SDG 2) and from social inequalities (SDG 10).
