Photography and filming in the museum

Photographs and videos taken for personal use and for social media posts by private individuals are generally welcome.

The following rules apply:

• Please take photographs and film without using a flash.
• Creator recordings using smartphones, compact cameras, selfie sticks and small audio equipment such as lavalier microphones are permitted as part of a regular museum visit, provided they do not disturb other visitors.
• The use of tripods, lighting stands, professional lighting systems, reflectors or similar equipment is not permitted without prior authorisation (see Commercial productions and filming permits).
• Please keep escape and emergency routes clear at all times.
• Please take care not to disturb other visitors and to respect their rights (see below: Personal rights and data protection).
  

Photography and video recording during guided tours and events
When taking part in guidedtours, workshops,events and activities (e.g. Family Sunday, craft sessions), additional rules apply to photography and video recording:

• Photography and video recording must be agreed in advance with the relevant guides.
• Recordings must not disrupt the course of the event, the presentation, the delivery of programme items or other participants. Please therefore avoid using equipment. Staged scenes and repeated recordings are not permitted.
• Please be considerate of other visitors and participants and respect their personal rights.
• Particular attention must be paid to the protection of privacy in the case of activities for children and families. Children and young people up to the age of 16 may only be filmed with the appropriate consent of all legal guardians. From the age of 14, the child’s own consent is also required.
• The relevant museum staff member may restrict or prohibit photography and video recording, particularly where this affects the running of the museum, the safety of exhibits or the legitimate interests of the museum.
• Different rules may apply to individual events or special programmes.

Our collections and exhibitions are unique and valuable.
Please therefore note:

• Exhibits must not be touched unless this is expressly permitted.
• You must not climb onto benches, display cases, plinths, railings or onto or into any part of the exhibition, unless this is expressly permitted.
• Decorations, barriers or museum fittings must not be altered or moved.
• Pathways and sightlines must not be obstructed for the purpose of taking photographs.

Visits by influencers and content creators do not entitle them to free admission, exclusive access or collaborations.

Film and photographic shoots that

• are carried out using tripods or professional production equipment,
• are used for commercial purposes,
• are produced as part of advertising campaigns,
• are commissioned by companies, institutions, members of the press or brands, or
• are to take place outside the scope of a regular museum visit,

require prior planning and written authorisation.

Please respect the rights of other visitors.

• People must not be photographed or filmed in a recognisable manner without their consent, unless a statutory exception applies.
• Children and young people up to the age of 16 may only be photographed or filmed with the written consent of all legal guardians. From the age of 14, the child must also give their own written consent.
• Museum staff may only be photographed or filmed with their prior consent.
  

Responsibility for compliance with data protection and privacy regulations lies with the respective content creator.

Please note that copyright restrictions may apply to individual exhibits, works of art, film footage within the exhibition, items on loan or special exhibitions.
Additional notices on site and instructions from museum staff are binding.

The museums reserve the right to restrict or prohibit photography and filming if

• the safety of exhibits is compromised,
• other visitors are inconvenienced,
• these guidelines are breached, or
• the museum’s legitimate interests are affected.

The instructions given by museum staff must be followed.
