Description of the

A project for children and young people

The Alexander Koenig Society and Museum Koenig are jointly carrying out the project "Participatory development of the 'NEO Nature Challenge' for the Museum Koenig's digital education platform 'NEO - Discover Nature Online'". The one-year project (running from April 2025 to March 2026) is funded by the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Environment and Development.

With our project, we want to sensitise children and young people to the importance of biodiversity who have hardly ever dealt with it before. To achieve this, we use digital formats and link the topic of sustainable consumption directly to the everyday lives of our target group. We also involve young people at eye level because they are experts in addressing their peers.

Workshops for young people

We run workshops with ten young people aged between 10 and 14, which include the following elements:

  1. Journey of discovery: The young people immerse themselves in the world of biodiversity. Together, they discover the rainforest habitat, shed light on the importance of a sustainable approach to our natural resources and recognise their own options for action.
  2. Ideas workshop: The young people develop a concept for the "NEO Nature Challenge" - a creative competition that we expect to launch in 2026. The aim is to use the winning entries to generate target group-appropriate learning content on the topic of "Rainforest - sustainable consumption" for NEO. In doing so, we would like to transfer the popular interactive rainforest consumer table, which is located in our exhibition, to the digital space.
  3. Knowledge transfer workshop: We train young people to become multipliers and implement initial measures with them so that they can pass on their knowledge to others and initiate change. This strengthens their sense of self-efficacy and increases the reach of the project.
