Description of the
NFDI4Biodiversity - NFDI consortium for biodiversity, ecology and environmental data
NFDI4Biodiversity is a consortium under the umbrella of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), which is dedicated to the joint use of biodiversity and environmental data.
Around 50 partners, including scientific institutions, museums, natural history societies, state offices and other institutes and expert groups, pool their specialist scientific and technical expertise to provide a broad service portfolio for handling biodiversity and environmental data and to further develop it in close cooperation with users from research and practice.
The co-operation of the partner network is guided by the knowledge that stakeholders from science, politics, nature conservation and landscape management need reliable data in order to be able to make better contributions to the conservation of biodiversity.
Together, the consortium partners offer the following added value:
- Access to modern technologies and a comprehensive inventory of biodiversity and environmental data
- Practical and tried-and-tested methods and tools for archiving, publishing, searching and analysing data
- A specialised forum for the secure and competent handling of data that is to be used in a broad and responsible manner.
The partners of the NFDI4Biodiversity consortium are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Federal-Länder Agreement on the Establishment and Promotion of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) of 26 November 2018 (project number 442032008).

The LIB Data Centre provides data flows, tools and services for the LIB's research collections and other suitable data sets. The focus is on the management of collection data, as well as the management, storage and archiving of observation and monitoring data.
Further information can be found in the Datacenter Wiki.
The"GBOL" and"AMMOD" projects serve as use cases in NFDI4Biodiversity.
