Questionnaire: Dr Ameli Kirse
Your Title, Name, Place of work?
Dr. Ameli Kirse, Bonn
What is your current position/function at our institute?
Postdoc / Scientific researcher
What do you like about your job/position?
My job is incredibly diverse and there is almost never a dull moment. During summer time I spend a lot of days outside in the field, and in the winter, I spend my time maintaining but also developing monitoring systems. This requires technical know-how as well as computer science skills. Of course, the work at the desk should not be neglected, however, data analysis and writing publications also have their appeal. It is always a great feeling to publish new findings and raise awareness for the importance of preserving biodiversity.
Can you please describe your tasks at the LIB?
My research focus is on the development and validation of monitoring systems. Besides molecular methods, visual and acoustic monitoring systems have become increasingly important. Combining several methods opens up a wide range of options for more precise and complete biodiversity assessments but also presents numerous challenges which I like to tackle in my work.

Is there something about the Institute that particularly appeals to you?
At the LIB, you will find scientists from a wide range of disciplines. Therefore, “thinking outside the box” is inevitable and ideas for new projects often pop up over a cup of coffee in the park of the museum.
