The photo competition organized by the Alexander Koenig Society (AKG) is celebrating its 11th anniversary. This year’s theme: “Coastal Habitat.” Submissions are open until October 15, 2024!

We’re looking for photos of typical coastal species: from a jellyfish to seals at the beach or shallow coastal waters. It’s important that all applicable nature and wildlife protection regulations are followed: animals must not be disturbed or impacted within their natural range. The competition is open to all amateur photographers!

“We are proud to host the photo competition for over a decade, again in collaboration with “dpunkt” publisher who is sponsoring the prizes,” explains Julia Herder from the AKG office, who organizes the competition. “Over the past 10 years, we have received far more than 5,000 photos. I am especially impressed and fascinated by the immense variety of ideas that amateur photographers bring to their images, and their incredible perseverance—capturing everything from macro to micro shots. Many participants come from Germany, and increasingly from Austria and Switzerland. We are also receiving more and more entries from across Europe, including from Hungary, Greece, and Croatia.”

Aim of the competition is to showcase the fascinating world of animals through the art of photography, with a different theme each year: sometimes focusing on a habitat, sometimes on a specific characteristic, such as size, or particular groups of animals. In addition to awarding the winners, selected photographs will be displayed in a special exhibition at the Museum Koenig Bonn from December 2024 to mid-February 2025.

We look forward to receiving many submissions till October 15, 2024!
