More than 10,000 visitors at the “Museumsmeilenfest” at Museum Koenig Bonn

For two days from June 22 to 23, 2024, the Museum Koenig Bonn opened its doors as well as the Museum Park to young and old at the legendary “Museumsmeilenfest” (Museum Mile Festival) of the five major museums on the Museum Mile. In addition to live music from classical to jazz to rock-pop, theater and dance performances, researchers offered insights into their work and “behind the scenes” of the museum. Of course, visitors were welcome to ask any questions and marvel at the “hallowed halls” of our scientific collections.

In the museum’s park, there were plenty of hands-on activities: The FÖRTAX project, for example, inspired visitors with its campaigns for more nature conservation. Countless “FlowerPowerBalls” – seed balls with native plant seeds – were handmade by young and old. Together, they all will make a small contribution to making our environment a little greener and supporting local insect diversity.

The focus was on discovering and exploring the fascination of nature, for example at the GBOL III – DARK TAXA stand, at NATUR BEFLÜGELT! – a program of the ALEXANDER-KOENIG-GESELLSCHAFT (AKG) and the museum for young people who discover biodiversity outside of school and participate in our research, or at the “Bonn Working Group for Bat Protection (BAFF)”, which offered exciting facts about flying mammals.

Our brand-new platform NEO – NATUR ENTDECKEN ONLINE (detecting nature online) – a learning platform for designing your own fantasy animals and their habitat – had its premiere. The digital escape game PROJECT POLLINATION was also at the start – in which players try to build a city with the highest possible diversity of pollinators. There were great prizes to be won at the wheel of fortune ond the AKG’s raffle, with the proceeds going to the museum. Our new research bus, which will go on tour from late summer and bring biodiversity research to the Bonn region and surrounding area, had its preview.

Juggling, diabolo and more – the CIRKUSTHEATER invited to try it out. Altogether, there was an activity for everyone, from snake-taming together with the DGHT STADTGRUPPE BONN to cutting out fossils with the “Eifel Nature Center” and crafting with natural materials together with BONNATOURS!

THEATER MARABU hosted the preview of the play “BAD BUGS” on Saturday afternoon and in the evening the audience listened to the sounds of the 70s by the band TASTE OF WOODSTOCK and THE RIGHT PILL in the park. On Sunday, jazz and the sounds of classical composers from the chamber choir “Voci di Fuoco” resounded in the halls of the museum, and on stage, young and old artists enchanted the audience, such as the “BIS Primary and Secondary String Ensembles & Soloists of the Bonn International School” and the orchestra “Camerata Nonnenwerth” & Friends. An all-round successful festival with a new attendance record – we are already looking forward to next year!
