Dr Karina Brandão, Hamburg

What is your current position/function at our institute?
Head of Section Lepidoptera, ztm (Centre for Taxonomy and Morphology)

What do you like about your job/position?
The liberty to organize my routine and my work, the opportunity to do research with lepidopterans, and have the privilege to work with something I love and believe.

Can you please describe your tasks at the LIB?
I have to “curate” the Lepidoptera collection, which means organizing the specimens considering changes in taxonomy and systematics, and making the collection available, by making lists and digitization of species. I also have to train students, both on taxonomy and laboratory work, and I have to divulge the results of my research.

Is there something about the Institute that particularly appeals to you?
The availability of an amazing collection, which I am still discovering. Every time I enter there, or I spend my time working there, I discover a new unsuspected treasure. I am very proud to be in charge of these treasures, and that I am able to develop my research while I am focusing on this collection.
