Your title, name, place of work (Bonn or Hamburg)
Dr. Nancy Mercado Salas, Hamburg

What is your current position/function at our institute?
Head of Section Crustacea, ztm (Centre for Taxonomy and Morphology)

Copepoda evolution, taxonomy, anchialine crustaceans

Can you please describe your research in general terms?
My main interest is to understand the evolutionary processes that have shaped the crustacean diversity, especially those processes related to the colonisation and establishment in new habitats. I am interested in particular environments that represent “living laboratories”’ (e.g., Phytothelmata, anchialine caves, deep-sea) that enables us to follow a variety of questions related to speciation, biogeography, population genetics, and evolution.

In which countries did you work and/or perform(ed) your research projects?
Mexico, USA, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and, as part of my research on deep-sea crustaceans I have joined expeditions in the middle of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
