Origin of objects in North Rhine-Westphalian collections
At the opening of the touring exhibition “The History of Things” at Museum Koenig, we recorded the introductory words of exhibition curator Verena Burhenne from the LWL Museum Office for Westphalia.
Almost 50 objects from over 40 North Rhine-Westphalian museums and archives shed light on the acquisition of collection items in ten exhibition chapters: “Nazi persecution-related and war-related confiscation of cultural assets”, “Judaica”, “Degenerate Art” and even the handling of cultural assets from colonial contexts explain in exemplary fashion how the pieces came into the museum legally. The role of collectors and patrons is also addressed.
A touring exhibition by the LWL Museum Office for Westphalia, in cooperation with the LVR Department of Regional Cultural Work, LVR Museum Advisory Service. With the kind support of the Ministry of Culture and Science in NRW.
